Semacode City:::
Public Space Intervention 2010
Semacode City
was a sticker based locative media intervention which took place on the streets of Dublin around Bloomsday June 16th 2010. A number of QR tags or semacodes were placed around the city in prominent places which are associated with Joyce's Ulysses. Each QR code contained a location specific text from Ulysses which could be read with a mobile phone. Without a phone the tags were meaningless.
The project referred to the notion of 'hybrid space' where the distinction between information space and real physical space collapses, while hybrid space is increasingly a reality it still requires access to the necessary hardware.
